Page updating is a generic term refering to any and all aspects of the individual pages within the site. Including, but not limited to repairing broken links, adding navagation and/or new pages or refreshing the appearence of the page
Broken links can impede the visitor's experience with a site, therefore it is important to minimize this type of exposure and therefore maximize the impact offered. Images and text stored within databases do not reside within the site pages, therefore no links can break
Refreshing the appearance of a specific web page will overcome the visitor's second impression, that of "there's nothing new here, I've seen it all before." A simple change in background color could translate into a second look.
